If Labor Day belongs to Boracay, for us, Cebuanos, Holy Week always belonged (to the Lord, of course) and the Island of Bantayan.
The moment we arrived, our (mostly my friend Nikki’s) first order of business was to eat a hearty breakfast and rent a couple of scooters to channel our inner habal-habal driver. It was by far the easiest mode of transportation on the island.
As the girls enjoyed their first meal of the day, We, on the other hand, were anxious to get our hands on our motorbikes. (It was my first time to actually drive one, and I’ve had prior accidents due to my lack of balance)
Well, let’s just see how that goes!
Alas, our bikes have arrived. Since this was pretty much the PEAKest season it could get, the day rental for these bikes goes up from 100 php to 500 php/day. We got ours for 400 php which was still pretty pricey but, if we didn’t avail of it, somebody else would.
In conclusion, within 3 days of motorcycle driving, I had –
0 accidents (Thank God)
7 close calls (Not bad for a person who can’t even ride a bicycle)
136,960 people who thought that I was an accident waiting to happen (population of Bantayan)
